Storage virtualisation has been available for some time but is yet to be widely adopted. Many major vendors are now entering this market with virtualisation 'appliances'. We expect to see rapid development of this technology.Virtualisation is a layer of software that converts islands of disparate storage into networked storage pools. This enables easy allocation of storage capacity from any vendors’ storage to any open system on an as needed basis, using a simple drag-and-drop interface.
