Hitachi Basic Operating System V Software

Hitachi Basic Operating System V software is an upgrade add-on to the Hitachi Basic Operating System software. It simplifies storage management and lets users take full advantage of the partitioning and heterogeneous storage virtualization capabilities of the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform® V, Hitachi Universal Storage Platform VM , Sun StorEdge 9990 V and StorEdge 9990 VM storage systems. The Basic Operating System V software adds:

• A unique ability to virtualize externally attached storage subsystems to the Universal Storage Platform V by creating a single heterogeneous pool of tiered storage. This enables simplified storage management, increases storage utilization, increases storage administrator efficiency, improves application service levels, and simplifies data replication, migration and retention to help meet compliance demands.
• An ability to create more virtual partitions - up to 32 storage and 32 cache partitions can be created.

Hitachi Basic Operating System V software enables the external storage virtualization capabilities of the Universal Storage Platform V and Universal Storage Platform VM to improve user storage management and data mobility capabilities, either within a single system or across an entire heterogeneous storage pool. Using the Basic Operating System software one administrator can manage all heterogeneous externally attached (Hitachi or third party) storage systems, from a single pane of glass. Alternatively, users can choose to designate multiple storage administrators to efficiently manage a particular set of storage resources that is made accessible to them.

Basic Operating System V software upgrades the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V and Universal Storage Platform VM virtual private storage dynamically changeable virtual partitions. With this upgrade package, users can upgrade from 4 to up to 32 secure virtual storage systems, so that shared storage can be securely compartmentalized as needed.
