The next-generation of Super DLT tape technology is being offered by Sun for general availability under the Sun StorEdgeTM SDLT 600 Desktop Tape Drive, Sun StorEdgeTM SDLT 600 LVD SCSI tape drive for the L25/L100 tape libraries and the SDLT-2 data cartridges.

With increased native capacity and performance over the SDLT 320 and LTO 1 and 2 drive technologies, the SDLT 600 tape drive offers 300 GB capacity per cartridge with a throughput of 36 MB/sec. The 300 GB/cartridge native capacity provides customers with the capability to backup an increased amount of data onto a single cartridge. In addition, the 36 MB/sec native throughput writes and reads at more than double the speed of the SDLT 320, which has a throughput of 16 MB/sec and 160 GB of capacity per cartridge.
